Dr. Mintz has extensive experience and expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of children, adolescents, and adults. She holds a doctorate in Clinical and School Psychology from the University of Virginia, and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Kennedy Krieger Institute of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. While at UVa, Dr. Mintz conducted research through the Center for the Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning on projects related to parent-child and teacher-child relationships. At Hopkins, she trained in the Child and Family Therapy clinic where she treated children, adolescents, and families experiencing a wide range of presenting problems.
Dr. Mintz has specialized training in cognitive behavioral therapy with children and adolescents from the Beck Institute. She also has specialized training in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as well as Motivational Interviewing for the treatment of a range of emotional and behavioral disorders. Dr. Mintz also specializes in school-based intervention and consultation. Dr. Mintz utilizes evidence-based treatment approaches including cognitive-behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness-based approaches.
Dr. Mintz has presented at national conferences such as the Society for Research in Child Development and the National Head Start Research Conference and has been published in peer-reviewed journals. She has also served as a researcher at Georgetown University and adjunct professor of psychology at Towson University.
Dr. Mintz is skilled at the diagnosis of ADHD, learning disabilities and differences, autism spectrum disorders, and emotional, behavioral, and mood difficulties such as anxiety and depression in childhood through adulthood. She uses a variety of assessment tools to form a comprehensive understanding of the individual and to provide tailored and practical recommendations to be implemented across settings. Dr. Mintz specializes in the treatment of a variety of anxiety disorders (Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Separation Anxiety, Social Anxiety, Phobias, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Panic Disorder, and PTSD) with children, adolescents, and adults.
